Press Release on Presentation of Credentials by Shri T.S. Tirumurti, High Commissioner

Shri T. S. Tirumurti, the newly arrived High Commissioner of India to Malaysia, presented the Letter of Credentials to His Majesty Yang Di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia today 7th January 2014 at the Istana Negara, Kuala Lumpur.

During his audience with His Majesty Yang Di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, the High Commissioner conveyed to His Majesty the personal greetings of the Hon'ble President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee and his best wishes for the continued prosperity, happiness and success of the friendly people of Malaysia. He referred to the excellent bilateral relations between India and Malaysia and expressed his commitment to further deepening of the strategic partnership with Malaysia. Recalling the long history of close relations between the two countries, the High Commissioner expressed his confidence that the multi-faceted bilateral ties would be strengthened further, including through continued high level exchanges, and that new vistas would be opened to reinvigorate such cooperation. He also called for greater people to people linkages.

          His Majesty conveyed his warmest greetings and sincere good wishes to Rashtrapatiji, the Government and the People of India and stated that Malaysia and India enjoyed very close and warm relations due to the historical and cultural heritage as well as mutual aspirations to see world peace and stability. He reiterated that Malaysia highly valued its excellent relations with India and this was reflected by close cooperation in various fields including trade, investment, education, tourism, defence, cultural, technical cooperation programmes and a strong people-to-people relation. He was confident that the target of US$ 20 billion of total bilateral trade would be achieved by 2015. He added that in addition to the two governments, important role had also been played by business community in this new partnership and pointed to the long and fruitful engagement of Malaysian entrepreneurs with their Indian counterparts.

       Shri T. S. Tirumurti has earlier served in Jakarta, Washington DC, Gaza, Geneva and Cairo as well as, at Headquarters in Delhi in various capacities.
