Person of Indian Origin (PIO) Card

 


Who is eligible:
Any person, who at any time held an Indian Passport; or he/she or either of his/her parents or grandparents or great grandparents was born as a permanent resident in India as defined in the Government of India Act, 1935 and other territories that became part of India thereafter provided neither was at any time a citizen of any country as may be specified by Central Government from time to time; or who is a spouse of a citizen of India

  • Where to apply –
(i) An application for issue of a PIO Card shall be made at the High Commission of India, Kuala Lumpur where the applicant is ordinarily resident in Malaysia.
  • Time of submission and collection –  submission is between 9:30 am and 12 noon and collection is from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm

  • Processing time30 to 60 days depending on the rush of applications.

  • Charges : RM 1178/- for adult applicants and RM 593/- for children below 18 years.  Payment is accepted upon approval only.

  • Validity: A PIO Card shall be valid for a period of fifteen years from the date of issue subject to the validity of the passport of the applicant.
(ii) Applicants who are already in India on Long Term Visa (more than one year) shall make the application for issue of a PIO Card to the following authorities:-
  • (a) Delhi: - Foreigners Regional Registration Officer, Level –II, East Block VIII,  R.K. Puram Sector – I, New Delhi.
  • (b) Mumbai: - Foreigners Regional Registration Officer, Annex – II, Commissioner of Police, Craw Ford Market, Mumbai – 400001.
  • (c) Kolkata: - Foreigners Regional Registration Officer, 237, Acharya Jagdish Chandra Bose Road, Kolkata – 700020.
  • (d) Amritsar: - Additional Deputy Director, Bureau of Immigration, B/123 Ranjeet Avenue, Amritsar.
  • (e) Chennai: - Chief Immigration Officer, Bureau of Immigration, Shastri Bhavan Annex, No. 26, Haddows Road, Chennai – 600006.
  • Supporting Documents for Submission of application form for PIO Card:
    • Duly completed application form in duplicate with 4 photos - click here for Application form for PIO Card.

    • Statutory declaration duly endorsed by the Commissioner of oaths - click here for form

    • Photocopies of the Passport, Malaysian IC, birth certificate.

    • Proof of India-born/ Indian origin, such as old Indian passport, Malaysian passport showing place of birth as “India”, Certificate of Citizenship showing place of birth as India, etc.; OR

    • Marriage certificate and copy of Indian passport of the spouse (in case married to Indian national)

Loss of PIO Card

  • Supporting Documents for Submission of application form for PIO card in lieu of lost PIO Card

    • Police report in English

    • Photocopies of the Malaysian Passport and PIO card (if available). In case of non availability of PIO card, the applicant is required to submit the copies of the documents submitted at the time initial acquisition of PIO card.

    • Charges are RM 388
